More Great Ideas to Get Customers in Your Store
Have an Ugly
 Jewelry Contest
This is a silly way to get your customers involved and might help you buy more scrap as well.
You could co-op this with a charity. Lot’s of ways this promotion could go.
Get them in the door with
ANIMALS
People love pets.
Have a cool fish tank, a
friendly dog, or even
potbelly pig. People will
come in your store just to
visit. One jeweler told me she
thinks her dog is responsible
for 20% of sales. Don’t feel like
 adopting? Have a benefit
 for a local animal
shelter instead.
TEACH
You sell the most when you don’t
look like you’re selling. Instead of inviting customers to come look at rings, invite them to a diamond class! Every Friday you could teach a class on, “How to tell the difference between a real and a imitation diamond.”
People will love it. You could invite local GIRL SCOUTS to come earn a diamond merit badge.
Give people useful information and they will trust and
buy from you.

Simple Ideas to Make You Money

8 EASY Ideas YOU CAN DO TODAY IN YOUR JEWELRY STORE to help you Sell More Jewelry.

EASY IDEA #1
 HAVE A PHONE CHARGING STATION

So easy. Everyone should have a phone charging station in your store for CUSTOMERS TO USE. The one in the picture cost $27. Why is this wonderful? It means people will put down their phone and look at your jewelry! $27 could lead to thousands of dollars in sales if customers are looking at your jewelry and not their phones.

It also makes you look like you care about them. Win, Win Win

Easy Idea #2
THE HAND OUT

If Zales and Kays do this shouldn’t you? Have handouts on topics customers may ask about, but that you don’t want to go into long speeches about such as treatments, synthetics and conflict diamonds. This shows you are knowledgeable and you care. You don’t give them to everyone, just those looking for more info. You can even have hand outs that say, “Why shop with us” such as the one below, which you are welcome to print out.

 EASY IDEA #3
DOG TAGS FOR SERVICE MEN
Although not as easy as buying a phone charger, this idea makes up for it in emotion & effectiveness.  Joey the Jeweler, Forrest J. Tinklepaugh Jr., prints memorial dog tags for military and other service people and donates them to the funeral home for the funeral director to give to the family of the departed.

“The number of spouses and family members in general that we have had that called the store in tears, sobbing on the other end of the phone thanking us for the gift would surprise y’all. Thank you letters and cards as well. These do not creep out the family, the family cherishes them. Most of the time they do buy more of them!”
 – Forrest

Forrest says it takes less than a minute to set it up, the funeral directors love it and of course the families do too.

They do great for graduation pics, pets, little league sport pics, wedding pics, and pretty much whatever you want.

If anyone is interested in more info email Forrest at [email protected].

EASY IDEA #4
CHARGE MORE FOR WATCH BATTERIES
You should probably be charging more for all your services, but this is an easy start. I talk to Jeweler after Jeweler who has made more money, with less headaches by raising service prices. Try it for a month.
Small numbers add up.

EASY IDEA #5

Upsell on Retipping Prongs

When a customer comes in for a repair on a ring that looks outdated, or that they seem less than thrilled with, try to sell them a NEW mounting instead of the repair! This might be a great idea that can lead to thousands of dollars. Can’t hurt to say something like, “Oh I’m happy to fix this for you but while we’re talking about rings, are you really happy with this one? Do you want to just take a peek at some of the hottest styles we have right now?” Nothing to lose and lot to gain.
EASY IDEA #6
ASK CUSTOMERS TO MODEL FOR YOU

You may know that the chances of making a sale go up when a customer tries on a piece of jewelry. SO… How can you get them to try on MORE jewelry? How about asking them to MODEL IT FOR YOU FOR YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE?!

This is win, win, win. They feel flattered and important, they try on your jewelry, and you provide an engaging, memorable, tell your friends experience. BONUS if you can get them to share the picture on their OWN Facebook page you can reach a whole new audience for free.

EASY IDEA #7
 MAKE ALL YOUR PICTURES BIGGER
Did you know that Bigger pictures sell more? The Antique Roadshow tested enlarging photos of their items 30% for their online auction. What happened? 63% more visitors bid on items! Go to your website and make your pictures bigger today. Want an example of a jeweler who uses FANTASTIC large pictures? Check out hamiltonhilljewelry.com.
EASY IDEA #8
HELP CHARITIES THROUGH YOUR STORE FACEBOOK PAGE

Cliff Yankovich has an easy solution to all the charities that come to your door. Giving them a piece of jewelry as a donation never seemed to get the recognition Cliff hoped for. Now when a charity asks for a item for a donation he has a better plan. He auctions the item off on HIS OWN STORE FACEBOOK PAGE Instead. The sports team, club, or charity get the total value of the item donated. Why is this great? It gets people to his Facebook page, thus exposing them to his jewelry. Bidders who care about the charity end up sharing the post giving him more likes and more exposure. As Cliff finds the item usually sells for more on this page than if it was sold by the charity’s own auction because bidders know every penny goes to the charity. Also Cliff gets the contribution instead of just taking an item out of inventory.
