The Importance of Being Present

Time is short and every day matters. Each day is 24 hours that cannot be reclaimed. I believe it is important to take the time to invest in yourself and know where you want to go. Below are a few things I do consistently for my own growth, and believe these are helpful for anyone.

Write your goals down.
Without aim, an arrow will never hit its target. Keep a list of items, both long-term and short-term, that you want to attain. These may be goals for your business, family, personal growth, etc.

Set micro goals.
Sometimes the sense of accomplishment you get from completing a task or crossing something off your to-do list helps propel you towards the next item. Especially when you are working towards larger achievements, setting micro goals can help you from feeling hopeless during your journey.

Reward yourself & celebrate.
Life gets busy, especially for business owners. I always recommend (and personally enjoy) setting rewards up for myself as I achieve my goals. These rewards can be as simple as getting your favorite ice cream on the way home Friday if you accomplished everything you set forth for the week. It’s rewarding to take the time to enjoy your accomplishments.

Hold yourself accountable.
You can do this by sharing your goals with someone and asking them to check in with you or by posting reminders to yourself where you will see them each day. The bathroom mirror or a note on your desk at work serve as great visual reminders to encourage you to stay on track.
